Week 14 Reflection, The VietCong
Vietnam was the one war in American history that received more backlash than any other. The American public hated the idea of going to war with Vietnam and it showed all over the country. People began disrespecting the soldiers coming home after risking and some sacrificing their lives all in the name of the American people. Nam was to me a failure on the part of the USA trying to intervein in the countries business and protect South Vietnam, which left 60,000 people dead on the side of America. A lot of people didn’t think it was necessary and while other wars suffered way more casualties, it was the principle of the war with this one.
President Nixon was one reason that the war in Nam was so heavily criticized because he violated the Cambodian neutrality act and that sparked protest all over the country. He also had the Watergate scandal which led to his impeachment. Nixon spent most of his term trying to pull American troops out and let South Vietnam start to take more responsibility for their wart.
One thing that came out of this little blemish of ours was the Wars Powers Act in 1973. This act now required the president get approval of the government before sending American forces overseas. By requiring the president to get approval from the rest of the government that means that most of America is on the same pages with his decisions. Or at least the people we elected to make those decisions for us. This act has stopped USA from going to war for no reason and really made us think before our actions. The Vietnam war while not all that damaging casualty wise, but this war was damaging in the fact of poking around in others business and what to do when their isn’t really a clear winner. This war serves as a reminder to really have a cause and plan of action before going to war with a country we know nothing about.

PowerPoints for class
I am always a fan of the pictures that are chosen to illustrate the weeks readings. You can tell by the picture the resources in Vietnam were scare. They didn't have proper protection on their head or feet.
