Week 12 Reflection, The 1950's

  I am going to be first talking about the Sunbelt. After World War 2 it was imperative that the whole country start and continue to progress and regroup after the war. One of the ways we did that was by building up the rest of our country. The Northeast and the Midwest were booming because of the industrial revolution, the Northeast was the original starting point of America, and the South/Western part of the USA was fairly simple. There wasn’t a lot of action out there in terms of business for the US and where the government had holdings. We now see how big the west is and how economically, it has grew to be what we know it today. The south was poor then and in my opinion is still poor now. There are a couple of big cities that hold importance, but mainly they are tourist cities. 
            Talking in terms of progress and building up our nation goes no further than the highway system. We all know that it’s the fastest way in a car from one city to another, Without the construction and building of the state highways everywhere would take a lot longer to get to, and basically, we would always be behind. In 1919 a trip from D.C. to San Francisco would take 62 days and now it takes 3. I personally don’t think it took that long or takes that long now, but not everyone moves at the same pace. The rise of the west and the connections to all the major cities via highways helped ignite an economic fire under our countries butt and things really started to take off in the 50's and beyond.

  1. Read your reflection, and this was well written. The change became a huge rebuild by how everything started to exspand with people travels, and people started to have different occupations after the ww2. Races of city change really started to take off.

  2. Hey Hey ! Before starting, I do want to let you know that it was a bit tricky trying to read your post on my end because the sizing of the picture covered most of your post. I was able to tweak some things and read it but it was a bit difficult. All in all, great post! I loved how you got straight to the point and discussed some of the main ideas of this movement. great Job!

  3. Hey this is very beautifully written. This was a very crucial time in my eyes to the united states it was time to expand. The highway helped us do that it helped us move troops move weapons and just let citizens get around faster. Just think about if they did not build them where we would be today, I could not even imagine. This also created a lot of jobs for people that were unemployed. This helped cities grow and become who they are today.

  4. Hey good blog this week, are we not all thankful for the highway system? Im glad that we had the highway system in the americas to expand and to travel easiley. The big picture makes the blog hard to read, other then that it was a very well written blog piece.

  7. Hey Nice post! The picture caught my eye and it illustrates how the American highway system came to be. The picture covered most of the post but I was able to make out the gist of it! It's crazy how the highway system was initially only made to connect the white suburbs to the cities for their convenience.
