Week 10 Reflection, The Great Depression

With the success the country had during the 20’s of course we and to have a downfall, right? We couldn’t continue to possibly keep growing economically right? Well we didn’t, we eventually had that downfall, and that was the great depression in the 1930’s. In 1929 the stock market crashed hard and sent this country into a deep dive of turmoil. The New York Stock exchange experienced a lot of loss on trade after a huge wave of sell orders came their way. The average price of a share fell 12% and that is a big loss of any kind, no matter how much money you have. Over 16 million shares were sold because of the decline and the market and country suffered. You could see that all throughout the country.
In 1932 Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected president and she began to try to change the tide in the country. Granted this was going to be a hard task, and things were going to get a lot worse before they got better. Roosevelt promised to make a new deal for the American people to help change the economy. Roosevelt was doing such a good job helping people that he was reelected in 1936 without a problem and continued to help the American people recovery form a dark time in history. As the country was finally starting to come out of the depression in 1937 after years of trying to rebuild the country took another hit. Industrial production and stock prices fell by more than 40% and 4million new people became unemployed. This was a hindrance of Roosevelt presidency but like the man he was, he kept pushing and trying to do right by the people. Roosevelt won another election in 1940 as the world was going into another world war, but like the country America is, we continue to adapt, revise, and push forward.
