Week 6 Reflection, World War 1
Before the turn of the 20th century the USA rose to become a world power. The US had the more productive economy, had a lot of goods and services within the country, but also available for export. However, we didn’t have a great military at the time and that hurt us, as we were about 4-5 times smaller than the other countries that were in WW1. The reason that the US had such a small military is that we weren’t interested in expansion, but rather making our current territory the best it could be. We weren’t interested with war, or any of that, however, that was all about to change very soon.
World War 1 started in 1914 and the USA didn’t enter the war till 1917 and then it ended shortly after in 1918. WW1 was more deadly than any other previous war in history and was the first war to use planes, submarines, and poison gas among other things. The war pit Germany, Italy, and Austria-Hungry, against the powers of France, Russia, and Britain with the US joining later to really but them over the top. The US was helping British side all along when in 1915 president Wilson made a loan to Britain and France to help finance the war and stop the expansion of the Triple Alliance. In 1917 the USA officially enters the war and things start to turn toward the end of the war. The Germans started an attack on the French front and with the help of American soldiers launching a counterattack they were able to drive Germany back to the Belgian boarder. The number of extra soldiers that America could provide gave the allied powers a half a million-man advantage and forced the likes of Austro-Hungry to ask for peace and caused Germany to request an armistice or a cease fire. After the intervention of America in WW1, on November 11th, 1918 the guns had stopped firing and the war was over.

Good information and this was very interesting how the US knew a strategy and what they did to begin with. Reading this gave me more understanding just like the rest of classmates. I can say that we knew how to grab Spain to support them and have them to support us by allowing us to use their machinery with Spain, it's like we knew what we was doing.

Great this was intriguing how the US knew a procedure and what they did in the first place. Perusing this gave me all the more seeing simply like the remainder of colleagues. I can say that we realized how to get Spain to help them and have them to help us by permitting us to utilize their apparatus with Spain, it resembles we recognized what we was doing.
ReplyDeleteWassup Matthew I enjoyed your reading on WWI. I find it interesting how the US had a plan or strategy. I like how you went into detail when talking about the US and Spain. But I like how the US noticed what was going on and tried to make a change.
ReplyDeleteHey Matthew! Really nice post, I liked hearing your reflection and the way you summarized the post was easy to read and comprehend. It is weird to hear that we had such a weak military because now our military is the biggest in the world. WW1 had such an impact on word history and we still see these impacts today.
ReplyDeleteHi Matthew , i really enjoyed your post . I like that you emphasized on how the United States military was before World War 1 . I like how the U.S reacted quickly with a plan and procedure to overcome the war . It feels good to know we live in a country that can join alliance when necessary to protect the people .
ReplyDeleteHi Matthew,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the information you gave us on WW1. I had no idea it was the most deadly war nor did I know it was the first war to use airplanes. It is even interesting to know submarines were used. I never thought of them being used in wars honestly. I always thought they were used for like research and stuff.
Hey Hey! I really enjoyed reading your post! I love how you elaborated and you were very precise in getting your points across. I like how you gave information concerning the military before WW1, I believe that was a great addition to your post and ensuring we understood how the US got to the point of pursuing WW1.
ReplyDeleteHey Matthew, you did a great job captioning information on WWI. It's very rare that students talk about WWI, and when they do it's vague information, however I learned new information from your post.
